These teachers were just great. Mr. Wang, the assistanct principal was the former art teacher and I think he honed in on all the visual aspects of the presentations. It's a challenge because it is being presented in a different language so it's bi - bi for some and tri - tri for others if a deaf person is having the English to Chinese to sign translation. Who's of first??? as Abbott and Costello once said.
I was born in Boston, MA and have taught in regular schools as well as schools for the deaf and special education settings. Visted China last year as one of twelve teachers sent by the Freeman Foundation. We travelled 4,500 miles inside China and had three different homestays: mountain, farm and city. It was all just great but informative and exhausting. My whole concept of Chinese people has been forever changed. I now present workshops in a variety of settings to educate others about the greatness of Chinese culture and its people. On October 3rd. 2007 I will return to China to present workshops at the Zhaoqing school for the deaf to staff there. Am really looking forward to it and am attempting to set up this blog! Wish me luck and I hope to hear from everyone, some known and others perhaps not known by me. Xie Xie Ni!
